A Changing Landscape: Management Expectations of the Multi-Disciplinary IRO – Going Beyond Simply an Increase in Valuation
Location: Il Fornaio - Denver Tech Center
8000 E. Belleview Ave.
Greenwood Village, CO 80111
USA

Program Details:

With more than 20 years of focus and dedication to the IR profession and her C-suite client management teams, Smooch Repovich Reynolds has become known for her wisdom, insightfulness, and candor in advising talent and executive decision-makers about how to leverage the IRO as an influencer and key partner... not to mention that through her executive search advisory work with companies ranging from pre-IPO start-ups to the Fortune 100, she has increased the valuation of her client portfolio by more than $500B!

Smooch will tap her diverse background to help Investor Relations professionals and other executives at this event to better read the tea leaves about the intentions of management, and how IROs can navigate the partnership with their CEOs  and CFOs to maximize the value of this critical executive triumvirate.  Gone are the days where corporate protocol defines how an IRO navigates their additive value, their ability to partner across an enterprise, and ultimately their ability to serve as an internal "psychological business partner" with management.

Smooch will talk about how IROs can look at things differently, and use a different set of metrics by which to gauge their value inside an organization. "The wisdom factor" is huge for IROs," she says. "And in this role, IROs should be leveraging the wisdom with the CFO, the CEO and key board members alike to help the entire organization understand the nuances of the Street and how it can affect the perception of the organization. That will increase their value and create a stronger position in the event of unforeseen circumstances that all management teams would like to prevent."

Speaker:
Smooch Repovich Reynolds

Smooch Repovich Reynolds serves as managing partner of the global Investor Relations and Communications Practice Group at DHR International, a global executive search firm. Ms. Reynolds' expertise is highly focused in the investor relations/finance communications and brand marketing professions. As a former corporate communications and financial public relations practitioner, Ms. Reynolds approaches her work form the standpoint of first-hand knowledge of the functions and advisers her clients as such bringing clarity to their IR and Communications challenges.

Prior to joining DHR, Ms. Reynolds was a partner in the Los Angeles office of Caldwell Partners, and was the leader of the firm's Investor Relations and communications Practice.

Previously, Ms. Reynolds was the senior vice president/CCO at The Irving Company, where she was responsible for redefining the communications function. Before that, she served as the founder and CEO of the Repovich-Reynolds Group, a retained search and management consulting firm specializing in the investor relations, communications and marketing functions throughout North America.

Location: Denver Athletic Club
1325 Glenarm Place
Denver, CO 80204

Do your 1x1 meetings with the buy-side feel more like an interrogation than an interview?

Come join us as we learn interview techniques borrowed from the intelligence community by institutional investors when meeting with your executives.  Institutional investors are hiring private firms to learn interrogation techniques, and frequently the trainers are former intelligence agents themselves. Learn more about these methods to prepare your management team for how 1x1 meetings are changing.

Also included in this presentation is a brief on the current cyber security environment; and what IR professionals and your executives need to know regarding data breaches.

Inflection Point: the State of the Stock Market

Michael Lewis's book "Flash Boys" cast bright light on the structure of a stock market that, behind the scenes, has been subject to increasing criticism and critique following repeated glitches. This summer, a series of congressional and regulatory hearings ensued and now an SEC-mandated tick-size study may impact 50% or more of all NIRI members. We may be at an inflection point. What must you know to help management understand the implications for your company and its shareholders?

Join Rich Barry, Vice President of the MAC Desk and Floor Governor of the New York Stock Exchange, and Tim Quast, Founder and President of ModernIR, as they share their knowledge of equity markets' continual transformation and explain what these changes mean for IROs, issuing companies and shareholders.

Presenters:

Tim Quast - Founder and President, ModernIR, Denver, CO
Tim Quast is an Investor Relations veteran and founder and president of Modern IR, a technology company that uses Big Data analytics to translate complex market data into trading and investment behaviors for public companies. Rich Barry - Vice President MAC Desk and Floor Governor, NYSE, New York, NY

He is also the creator and writer of the daily MAC Mid-Day Update which now boasts a readership of over 8,000 people. Prior to joining the NYSE in 2008, Rich was a Senior Managing Director and Floor Trading/Risk Manager for the specialist firm of LaBranche and Co. May Social – the Fine Art of Small Talk

Join the Rocky Mountain Chapter for a fun night of small talk, yummy appetizers and great drinks at Elway's in Cherry Creek!  Debra Fine, author of "The Fine Art of Small Talk," will kick off the evening with a brief keynote presentation on how to start a conversation, keep it going, and leave a positive impression.

Presenter:  Debra Fine, Author of "The Fine Art of Small Talk"

Author and small talk guru Debra Fine began her career as an engineer, an occupation that allowed her to maintain her natural shyness and avoid situations that required social interactions. But, after the birth of her two children, Debra took time off from her career and observed those around her who seemed to be natural small talkers. Seeing how others’ speaking abilities allowed them to flourish, Debra decided she was tired of being shy. Around the same time, she lost 65 pounds. This transformation gave Debra all the more confidence. And, after Debra and her husband divorced, she was further compelled to initiate friendships and hone her mingling skills.

Debra researched and studied strategies for starting conversations, keeping them going, remembering names, “actively” listening, exiting with grace and generally making a positive impression on those with whom she struck up conversation. The result is THE FINE ART OF SMALL TALK—a book handy for anyone from business executive to PTA parents, students facing post-college interviews to singles trying to make love connections.

People-Reading Through Understanding Body Language & Personality Differences
  • How may we de-code body language and verbal queues to identify a person’s personality type?
  • How do we use that knowledge to optimally work and negotiate with each personality type?

Jan Hargrave presented “Strictly Business Body Language” to a rapt audience of Rocky Mountain NIRI members and guests in 2012. She returns to Denver in March 2014 with a follow-on program designed to help us identify and understand the four basic personality types, then use that knowledge to successfully speak to and work with people of each type. We will learn the strengths and weaknesses of each personality type and acknowledge their individual type of participation/role as a team player. Jan will also teach us key words one might use to best motivate specific personality types.

You are invited: bring your curiosity and questions, and learn what your body is communicating to those around you! Attendees will have the opportunity to take a short quiz to identify their personality type.

Presenter:  Jan Latiolais Hargrave - CEO, Jan Hargrave & Associates

Jan Hargrave is a successful speaker, talk-show guest and author who has taught thousands of people around the globe how their bodies communicate to the world around them.
